Privacy Policy

SpedZen is a Chrome extension for special education teachers. This policy describes what data SpedZen handles, where it lives, and what leaves your computer.

The short version

We collect nothing. Your data stays in your browser, and the only things that ever leave are anonymized.

What we (TalliQ) collect

Nothing. SpedZen has no server operated by TalliQ. We receive no student data, no usage analytics, no telemetry, no account information, and no API keys. We cannot see how you use the extension.

Where your data lives

Everything SpedZen captures or generates is stored in Chrome's extension storage on your computer:

Student records the extension captures from SpEd Forms pages you visit (goals, objectives, accommodations, present levels, IEP dates), stored keyed by anonymous identifiers. Student names are kept in a separate local-only name map used purely for display on your screen.
Everything generated (Progress Checks, scores, report drafts, goal drafts, PWN drafts), stored in anonymized (tokenized) form.
Your settings and your Anthropic API key.

Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it. Nothing is synced to any TalliQ system.

What leaves your computer

Anonymized generation requests to Anthropic. When you generate, the request goes directly from your browser to api.anthropic.com using your own API key. Before any request is sent, SpedZen replaces student names with placeholders (like STUDENT_A) — including detected preferred names/nicknames — and a final guard inspects every outgoing request and blocks it entirely if a real name is found. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by Anthropic's own commercial terms and privacy policy.
Optional: hosted progress checks to your own Firebase project. If you complete the optional hosted-delivery setup, publishing a check writes its already-anonymized student-facing content (no names, no goal or accommodation text, no answer keys) to a Firebase project you own, under an unguessable link token. The link-to-student association exists only on your computer. Students who complete a check submit answers anonymously — no account, no name entry, no cookies.
Nothing else. No analytics endpoints, no crash reporting, no third-party scripts.

Children's data

SpedZen is a tool for teachers; students never use the extension itself. The optional hosted check page is designed to collect no personal information from students: no name, no login, no contact information, no persistent identifiers.

FERPA posture

SpedZen is designed so that education records stay under the school's control: records live on the teacher's managed device; anything transmitted is de-identified before it leaves (names structurally excluded); optional cloud storage is a project the teacher or district owns under its own Google agreement. TalliQ is not a party that receives education records.

Retention

Data persists in your browser until you delete it or uninstall the extension. Optional hosted checks carry an expiry (default 14 days), can be revoked by you at any time, and live in your own Firebase project where you or your district can delete them directly.

Changes

We'll update this policy if the product's data handling changes, with the effective date above. Material changes will be called out in release notes.
